RUSSELLVILLE, AL – The Region 1 Alabama Workforce Development Council was called to order by Chairman Grady Batchelor at 11:30 a.m. at the Franklin County Department of Human Resurces office.  The roll was called by Joy Pace-Isom and a quorum was present.  The minutes of the previous meetng held May 14, 2009 were adopted and approved.  A report was provided by Sarah Horton of the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development updating the Council on several key upcoming dates associated with th3 2009 approval process an also matters related to the stimulus funds.  Proposals had been prior to the meetng and reviewed by the propoal review committee to ensure the proposals meet the criteria set forth by the Council and to make recmmendations to  the Council.  The following proposals were submitted, recommended for approval by the proposal review committee, and subsequently approved by the Council.

MONTGOMERY, AL – Grady Batchelor, Chair of the Corridor X / I-22 Commission presented a regional report to Governor Bob Riley and the Alabama Rural Action Commission (ARAC). The report addressed the three key areas where the Corridor X / I-22 Commission focused its efforts 2008-2009. The primary focus has been on economic development, workforce development, and leadership development. We have worked to leverage our efforts across multiple initiatives across multiple communities to achieve more.

Bedford and Millican Recognized by City of Haleyville

Alabama State Senator Roger Bedford used a special luncheon in his and Representative Mike Millican honor to announce he is considering running for governor. He stated Jim Folsom has decided not to run and would support Bedford if he ran. Fifty community and business leaders led by Bobby Taylor, President of the Haleyville Chamber of Commerce, gave a very warm welcome to Senator Bedford and Representative Millican at the T&F West House Friday. Haleyville Mayor Ken Sunseri presented plaques and keys to the city to both for their work in the state legislature for this area.
